What do we learn by looking back on Christians who have come before us?
What does it mean to be a “saint”?

The Scripture Readings
(00:00) First Reading – Ecclesiasticus 44:1-14 *
(01:37) Psalm 149
(02:54) New Testament – Revelation 7:9-17
(04:26) Gospel – Matthew 5:1-12

(05:59) The Sermon – Fr. Jay Traylor

*At a few points throughout the year (like today) our Old Testament reading might be substituted with a reading from one of the books of the Apocrypha, like today with Ecclesiasticus, also known as Sirach or The Wisdom of Sirach. This is why the reading ends with “Here ends the reading” as opposed to the normal “The Word of the Lord / Thanks be to God.” We do not believe that the books of the Apocrypha are scripture, so they are not God’s inspired Word. They are, valuable books that contain Godly wisdom, and so we should read them much like we would read a book by Martin Luther or N.T. Wright or Mark Dever.
